Nestled
just inland of the eastern shore of Charlotte Harbor is Burnt Store Marina. Much
of the land here is protected as a wildlife preserve and buildings are designed
within these strict standards. This security conscious, gated, small community
features a large marina with about 500 slips and country club living with golf
and tennis. Boating enthusiasts will find great saltwater and freshwater
waterways to explore both south and north and the renown Boca Grande Pass to the
west allows access to the Gulf of Mexico. Leaving Charlotte Harbor may be a
problem though, as there are many great fishing areas and small habited and
uninhabited islands to explore as well as the world famous Sanibel and Captiva
Islands which are almost directly across Charlotte Harbor. Burnt Store Marina is
named after Burnt Store Road which had at one time - yes - an old burnt store on
it.
Visitors
to the Burnt Store area can easily tour the southwest Florida cities in the
area. Going south, you'll have close access to Cape Coral, Fort Myers and
Fort Myers Beach. Pine island including Matlacha, Bokeelia and St. James
City are closer by water than roadway. North Captiva, Useppa, Don Pedro and
Little Gasparilla islands are all just north of Sanibel-Captiva, which sits
across Charlotte Harbor from Burnt Store. These smaller islands must be reached
by boat. The Punta Gorda / Port Charlotte area is 15 minutes north. Venice and
Englewood beaches are about thirty - forty-five minutes further and Sarasota is
about a ninety-minute drive. Boca Grande can be reached easily by boat but by
car, a circuitous trip through Charlotte County is required. The Southwest
Florida International Airport is about an hour's drive and services this area.
